
Making Bathroom Heaters That Don’t Blind You
When we design replacement infrared heating elements for bathrooms, we’re fighting two main battles: water and light. You want that instant, cozy warmth the second you step out of the shower, but you don’t want to feel like you’re staring into a welding torch—especially if there are babies or kids in the room.
Getting the light right
Most standard IR lamps have a bad habit of “bleeding” into the visible spectrum. That’s why some heaters give off that harsh, blinding blue glare that makes you squint. It’s annoying, and it’s tough on the eyes. We fix this by tweaking the quartz glass and the filament alloys. By “tuning” the spectrum, we keep the energy where it belongs—in the infrared band. The result? You feel the heat on your skin, but your eyes stay relaxed. It’s a much softer experience.
Dealing with the steam
Since these are for bathrooms, they have to be IP65-rated. In plain English: they need to keep dust and water jets away from the electrical guts. We use reinforced glass-to-metal seals and high-temp silicone gaskets to make sure everything stays bone-dry inside. But here’s the catch. When you seal a heater tight to keep water out, the heat gets trapped. It can’t breathe as easily as an open-air heater. If your fixture’s heat sink isn’t up to the task, the envelope can overheat and burn out the filament way too early. It’s a delicate balance.
A few tips for swapping them out
These are designed to be simple drop-in replacements. We use standard R7s or Sk15 bases, so you aren’t spending your whole afternoon messing with wiring. One big thing, though:don’t touch the quartz tube with your bare hands. I know it sounds picky, but the oils from your skin leave invisible smudges. When the lamp heats up, those spots create “hot spots” that can actually crack the glass. If you do accidentally touch it, just give it a quick wipe with some isopropyl alcohol before you plug it in.
