
Why We Use Explosion-Proof Quartz in Bathroom Heaters
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got steam everywhere, high humidity, and the constant risk of a cold splash of water hitting something scorching hot. If you use standard quartz glass in a mirror heater, that sudden temperature drop can be a disaster. The glass contracts too fast, the stress builds up, and—pop—it shatters. Nobody wants glass shards flying around their bathroom. That’s why we stick with explosion-proof quartz. It’s treated and tempered to handle those wild temperature swings without breaking a sweat. It keeps the heating element safe from moisture and, more importantly, keeps you safe.
How the heat actually works
We use short-wave infrared emitters to clear the fog. Here’s the cool part: instead of trying to heat up all the air in the room (which takes forever), these lamps beam heat directly onto the glass surface. Your mirror clears up almost instantly, but the room doesn’t feel like a sauna. To make this work, the quartz tube has to be crystal clear so the infrared light can pass right through. We also run these on low voltage. Since we’re dealing with water and electricity, we aren’t taking any chances with leakage.
A few tips for installation
If you’re putting these in, keep an eye on your housing. Make sure it’s rated for the lamp’s wattage, or you might end up melting your plastic mounts. Not a great look. Also, don’t over-tighten the clamps. I know it’s tempting to make everything snug, but explosion-proof quartz still needs a little room to breathe and expand. If you squeeze it too hard against the frame, you’re basically undoing all the benefits of the tempered glass. And please, double-check your wiring. Seal those terminals against moisture. A little bit of sealant now saves you a massive headache (and a potential short circuit) later.
